An association of unviable towns

Two-channel film, map, and postcards | 2023

‘An association of unviable towns’ was commissioned for Lismore Encore, an exhibition at Lismore Regional Gallery in 2023 that aimed to respond to the devastating flooding of 2022. Undertaken in collaboration with Sophie Canaris, and with support from Matthew Damour-Paul, the installation speculated on the new solidarities, power dynamics, strategies, democratic processes, and forms of remembering catalysed by extreme events. A two-channel film work focused on Lismore’s own rivers, Wilsons and its tributaries, as well as its flood defences, asking how we can reconcile returning agency to these waterways while preserving and celebrating the core of a town.
